Tinside Pool LED Lighting
Pyramid were asked to design a system of lighting that would withstand a rigorous brief;
- 10 year design life incorprating a fully waterproof design, as well as the ability to sustain attacts from salt corrosion
- Minimal maintenance regime
- Automated playback of 7 independant light shows, one for each evening through the summer opening period
- Interaction with the fountain systems installed
We set about sourcing products that could fulfll the technical brief, and quickly realised that there were very few available, and those that matched he brief were limited in their performance.
We had worked with colour changing LED systems many times before, and had developed a strong understanding of the emerging market and options around, so we knew that we needed to talk to some key partners to achieve our brief. Those came in the shape of
Artistic License who had helped us design Europe's first public lighting scheme featuring colour changing LED panels, and also
TRYKA with whom we had been introduced to previously.
Three key products were identified as being appropriate, although two of them came form TRYKA and were pretty much prototyopes and therefore we had to move quickly to prove their integrity and ability to be tested to IP68 standards.
Once this proces was complete, and the entire infrastructure designed and installed, we had a system comprising 60 LED fittings driven by a combination of Artisitic Licence low voltage dimmers and control systems, as well as TRYKA's proprietory drivers.
A full week of programming followed the testing and installation stages, which produced 7 shows that were automated on a timeclock.
The system has been running now for 4 years, and has been used by ourselves since as a live installation triggered by audio and PC control as part of the sonicexpo events in Plymouth in 2007.
