Plasma and LCD Screens
Where are they used?
As usual, the application often dictates the type of screen to choose. This also is true of the size of display and where it is to be used. In simple terms, LCD tends to be used in situations that need smaller screens, from 20" to 40" diagonal image size, and plasma from 36" to 150 " !!
What is the difference between plasma and LCD?
Each technology has it's pros and cons, and it's hard work keeping up with this market place ! Budget is a major factor here, as you definately get what you pay for, and if using these for video and TV, then the cheaper the option, the worse the image will be as the important factor here is the quality of the video processor onboard.
This is where costs are cut!
Plasma manufacturing processes are 'easier' with plasma in larger sizes, and manufacturers like Panasonic and Pioneer are leaders. There are many choices from many manufacturers, and these screens can be used in either domestic applciations, where image quality can vary widely, to commercial applications that demand more robust housings and performance. Lifespans are shorter than that of LCD panels, and power consumption tends to be higher. Plasma can also provide better colour contrasts.
LCD on the other hand favours smaller screen sizes, although panels can be as large as 60". Resolutions are similair, and brightness is good. The main advantages are thinner panels and lower power consumption, as well as longer panel life.
