Media Servers

What is a media server?
Media servers are central storage devices that hold all your music and video collections and then allow multiple users to access these at any time. These devices protect content, and are proprietary technologies so copyright is not an issue.

Applications
Typically, media servers are used in homes, high end hotels & private yachts.

An example of this would be a house with a cimema room where you can access any one of your DVD's in High Definition and watch it on your screen, at the same time someone else could be watching another movie in the lounge, and a different one again in the Master Bedroom. All the while you can be playing music from a CD in the kitchen. In fact you can have any comination of music or video playing at any one time throughout the whole house!

What are the choices?
Audio only or audio and video servers are available from various manufacturers such as Imerge, Axonyx and Kaleidescape

Each ' end point ' player then can be added as you wish to upgrade, and these plug straight into your display or audio system in each 'zone' All you need is some basic network cabling between the server and the player, which we can help you with.

How do I get my CD or DVD artwork?
All media server systems will automatically search the internet and access a predefined site containing all the information needed such as artwork, track listings and artist/director etc.

What does it look like on my TV screen?
Typically, you choose to view the information in lists alphabetically, by artist name, genre and so on. You can search using simple commands, or you can browse through cover art much like the much known i Tunes style.

How much media can I store?
Based on a standard drive; One DVD takes up around 7Gb, and one BlueRay DVD 35Gb so 70 DVD's or 15 BR DVD's One CD takes around 500Mb so roughly 1000 CD's could be stored. As your collections grow beyond this, you can add storage as you wish.

The Imerge S5000 Mdia Server has a hard drive capacity of 3Terrabites (7 x 500GB drives) or 700 - 1000 hrs of DVD-quality video; over 4,000 hrs uncompressed audio; over 50,000 hrs MP3 audio. This can be streamed to up to 7 zones at one time.
