Interactive Whiteboards
What are they?
These are wipe on boards that act as interactive surfaces connected to your computer. The user can literally touch the screen and interact with whatever software is displayed through the projector. Connecting the screen much like a wired mouse allows users to navigate and select items, call up virtual keyboards and so on.
Screens come in various sizes up to 80" diagonal, and can be either wall or trolley mounted.
Where are they used?
In all manner of applications such as Education,
Training Rooms, Engineering, in fact anywhere collaborativelearning and discussion is key.
Benefits
Group learning and discussion can be recorded and used later for refrence or distribution. Virtual notes, annotations and drawings can all be exported for further use.
What equipment do I need?
Each system comprises a whiteboard, projector and PC. Generally, these would be installed permenantly, although mobile systems are available as a shared resource. Sanyo are currently offering a system using an ultra short throw projector which makes provides an 80" image from just 9cm away!
Do I need specialist software?
The screen runs with it's own software, allowing you to then use any of your usual programmes, although there are many particular programmes that can enhance the medium. Schools in particular use specific software tools for learning.
